British Steel's last two blast furnaces shut down, making it the only country in the developed world unable to produce its own steel
The shutdown of conventional blast furnaces in the UK has resulted in the loss of the UK's ability to produce the full process from iron ore to high-end steel.
However, the UK can still produce some steel through electric arc furnaces, but their smelting temperature is about 1600℃, which is lower than that of blast furnaces of more than 2000℃.
Products are concentrated in the rebar, beams and other general construction steel field, and can not produce high-purity bearing steel, corrosion-resistant plate steel and other special steel, high-end special steel can only rely on imports.
